Betancourt has a special talent for financing his businesses, both directly and through various groupings of companies, which he has set up. “That is why my companies are at the center of industry, commerce, industry with customers, production, even services,” said Alejandro Betancourt. He has also incorporated tourism and real estate firms. His latest venture, Hawkers Co., focuses on the highly profitable food trade in Latin America.

Betancourt also said that Hawkers is planning to establish new offices in the United States (Miami) and the United Kingdom (London). The expansion into the United States is already underway. “At the moment we are working in Panama, Uruguay, Bolivia and Ecuador, and we’ve even had a very successful operation in Brazil,” said Betancourt.
Alejandro Betancourt Lopez is the current President of Hawkers Co. and has been a member of its board of directors since 2001. In addition to the role, Betancourt is also the Executive Vice President of EMADCO, a U.S.-based company that designs and manufactures gas power plants. Alejandro Betancourt plays a key role providing engineering, procurement and construction services for oil and gas production and water infrastructure, power generation, refinery and petrochemical projects.
In 2005, the company was involved in a $6 billion dollar natural gas project in the western Dominican Republic. In October 2006, the company signed a US$25 million contract with a subsidiary of India’s National Petrochemical Company to build a propane dehydrogenation and ammonia plant in the country.
In 2006, the company acquired Liquid Power LLC, an energy services firm based in Vancouver, and, in April 2007, sold CIBank to Chile’s Banco BCI for $6.5 million. Betancourt was named a director of Avianca in May 2007. He serves as Chairman of the World Affairs Council of America, and is a member of the Board of Governors of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, the Spanish Institute in Washington, D.C. to know more click here.
